Therefore, proper prescription from a renowned medical practitioner or addiction professional is necessary before beginning the course. The course of these medicines is of two types, one is a long term course which provides the total recovery over a period of long time and in addition to that reduces the risk of relapse and future drug use, while the short term course only constitutes of detoxification from the drug substance. It is the proper and regular dosage of the pill which is crucial. Suboxone should be allowed to dissolve under the tongue. It should not be chewed, crushed or swallowed if its proper therapeutic affects need to be obtained. Another important factor during Suboxone treatment is that, the patient should not consume any intoxicant with the pills, as their joint effect could be very adverse for the body. Moreover, apart from this treatment, the addicts should also have counseling sessions and seminars that highlight the risks associated with addiction.

For some addicts, Suboxone is used in addiction recovery maintenance. Addiction counseling can help the patient during this stage and can make the treatment successful once you quit taking opiates. For maintenance, the doctor will advise lowest dose that will help stop withdrawal symptoms or opiate cravings. This phase can last from months to a year or more.
