i’m in this chemistry class and my teacher gave us homework. this question is really confusing me. the answer isn’t in my book anywhere and honestly, i don’t think it has anything to do with chemistry what so ever.. can someone help me?

Resolved Question: Boyfriend has surgery in the morning & is embarrassed to tell the hospital he’s on methadone maintenance?

Will he be OK if he doesn’t tell them? I’ve tried four times in the past 36 hours to convince him to disclose this without success. He’s embarrassed and, at this point, thinks the surgeon & other staff will be pissed off at him for not disclosing. He’s, also, worried about it being in his file. He uses NO street drugs or alcohol. He does smoke cigarettes. He is going for back & shoulder (possibly a shoulder replacement or reverse shoulder replacement) surgery & has a long rehabilitation ahead of him. What in the world can I tell him to change his mind & disclose to the hospital that he is on methadone maintenance treatment? He takes 35mg/day which is low for MMT/MAT (he’s in the process of tapering off from it). What complications could occur if they don’t know? Will he be OK if he doesn’t tell them? If he continues to be stubborn about it, am I overstepping his boundaries if I inform the hospital? And, if I do inform them, will it cause him trouble? Or am I just pushing my ethics on him? Basically, HOW can I get him to tell them (if he needs to)? Thank you in advance for your answers because I do not know what to do.
Methadone Update.wmv – Just a quick update on my methadone treatment. Been going good so far, other than the relapse I had day before yesterday. Been clean from opiates for one month now, but used cocaine, crack, and liquor saturday night. My mistake, knew I shouldn’t have gone out with my best friend, but thought he was seriously clean as well. Oh well, this stuff happens I guess.
