Do People Use the Term “addiction” as a Way to Control People to Do as They Desire?
Question by Seeker Of Painful Truths 2: Do people use the term “addiction” as a way to control people to do as they desire?
I ask because it would seem to me that based on what experts say, “addiction” is bad for you. Yet when ever the word “addiction” pops up, people usually use it like this below:
– PORN addition is bad
– DRUG addiction is bad
– ALCOHOL addiction is bad
None of that make any sense to me because I thought it is “ADDICTION” itself that’s bad. If thats true then why the need to specifically point out what kind of addiction it is? It should matter what the addiction is because the problem is “addiction” itself.
I think that people have clouded the term addiction so much that it’s meaningless. I think when people have a real problem like alcohol addiction or what ever, the core problem isn’t that they are heavily into alcohol, but that they are seriously UNBALANCED.

How Can I Slowly Detox From Opiates Without Horrible Withdrawls?
Question by Megan: How can I slowly detox from opiates without horrible withdrawls?
Mostly tramadol, codiene, oxy, and vicodin.

I don’t know the best way to put this, but to slowly detox without having horrible withdrawals may be something that won’t work. Now from what I know to detox slowly from opiates without getting medical help is to slowly cut down on the amount you intake daily. Eventually you get to the point where you’re not taking anything at all. That’s the only way I can see detox not having “horrible withdrawls”. But you’ll still have some. In my honest opinion if you really want to get clean, you must go through the horrible withdrawals. Yes it may be rough, but its what it takes. Cold turkey it, rough it out, beat the addiction. The hours of being sick, and not knowing what to do with your life will all be worth it in the end.

Dealing With a Family Members Addiction to Ambien PLease Help?
Question by smaceroni: Dealing with a family members addiction to Ambien PLease help?
OK my sister has been addicted to Ambien for about 4 years now. She has through detox and rehab twice and hasnt gotten better. She is still very much addicted and supoosed to be going into another detox/rehab. She has been supposed to go nor for 2 weeks but everyday comes up with new excuse or chickens out. I have been supportive or encouraging but now its getting hard for me to be that way cause it hard for me to believe that she is actually going to go. She gets mad when I try to give her “tough love”. She gets mad that my parents and I never went to some type of counseling to learn about her problem. She says that since I have never been addicted I dont know what its like. I understand that, but it doesnt take a rocket scientist to know that its going to be pure hell to go through detox and rehab and stay clean. I just dont know what to do or say to her anymore. Has anyone been in this situation? What should I say or do? She is 34 and Im 26
