Psychiatric Ward Prefers Alcoholic Patients to Real Mentally Ill?
Question by No Chance Without a Kiss: Psychiatric ward prefers alcoholic patients to real mentally ill?
Isn’t it easier to treat the alcoholics, they’re pretty “normal” people just trying to stop drinking. Makes life easier for the doctors and nurses, and everybody knows, many people will take the easy option when given the choice, doesn’t matter to them, as long as they cash their pay check at the end of the week.
“There is a “psychiatric ward” and then there’s “rehabilitation centers”. They are two completely different buildings with two completely different doctors with two completely different purposes.”
Not in my local hospital, it has a psychiatric ward, and the beds are mostly taken up by alcoholics.

People drink to take away the pain of their emotions, so they self medicate themselves this way. But—- there is always an underlying problem on why they do it, and most of the time Dr.’s just want to treat the noticeable problem, which is drinking.

What Happens at Rehab
What Happens at Rehab – A drug and alcohol rehabilitation facility is under investigation after authorities say three of its patients have died there unexpectedly in the past seven months. This past week 20-year-old Stacy Murphy of Owasso, died after just six weeks at Narconon Arrowhead, a Scientology run facility. Murphy’s father says his daughter got hooked on painkillers and sought help. “There’s no way Stacy should have died,” said Murphy. “This should not have happened.” The cold-turkey program touts a more than 70-percent success rate, but in reality after investigation that number is more like 9 – 12 percent. Stacy passes away last Friday morning. He says he was told by Narconon that Stacy left the facility unattended for a little while and returned. When she got back, she tested positive for opiates. Murphy says officials left Stacy in a room by herself, where she later passed. “She did not have 24-hour staff, she did not have a physician, she did not have a Narcon shot. Her parents were not called. Nothing was done to save my daughter’s life,” said Murphy. Murphy says he didn’t know about the other deaths until weeks after his daughter’s enrollment. He also found out that there aren’t any physicians or licensed drug and alcohol counselors there, as all the people that work there are former patients, some having just graduated days before who are fully in charge of detox and other ‘programs’ there. Murphy hopes Narconon Arrowhead is held fully accountable. Ss of now, they have not issued …
New Rehab Facility Aims to Push Patients Towards Independence – 10Nov2012
New rehab facility aims to push patients towards independence – 10Nov2012 – SINGAPORE: Changi General Hospital and St Andrew’s Community Hospital are introducing a new model of care to help the ageing population cope with injuries and illnesses. This will be rolled out at a new eight-storey facility called The Integrated Building located between the two hospitals in Simei. The new Integrated Building is part of the government’s plans for healthcare delivery and services in the east and also part of the two hospitals’ Simei Campus Vision. A key concept will be “cluster housing” – where patients learn to be independent. CEO of Changi General Hospital, Dr Lee Chien Earn, said: “We cluster our traditional B2 and C class beds, the 10 beds, within and try to make it as home-like and homely as possible. By having a living room, by having ensuite toilets, within the cluster itself. “And for every three clusters in a ward, there’ll be common-shared dining area as well as a living area. The intent is so that the patients’ time that they’re actively involved in mobilisation, actively involved in therapy, is not just limited to the time the therapist spends with them, but in terms of the activities that they do – when they walk to the toilets, when they eat with their families, when they get a cup of water – we want all these to also contribute to the patients’ getting, being more actively involved, in their recovery.” Housing 280 beds, the building will also integrate a suite of rehabilitation facilities. They include the Geriatric Day Hospital and Neuro …
