Suboxone, Part 14: How Long Should Detox Take?
Suboxone, part 14: how long should detox take? – Physically, narcotic-addicts can (and do) survive abrupt detoxifications (for example, in prison). This entails a few days of influenza-like symptoms, something nobody would look forward to (diarrhea, nausea, chills), but completely survivable. How long should detoxification in more comfortable circumstances last? Dr. Bock recommends a few months’ gentle tapering, using the substitute narcotic, Suboxone. In his practice, he finds that people more motivated (for instance those paying cash, out of pocket) are able to move much more quickly, getting off narcotics in a matter of days or weeks. Manny, while on Suboxone, find this substitute narcotic appropriately comforting , and don’t want to leave it; but emphasis is made to move forward in life, away from one narcotic or its narcotic replacement.
