Resolved Question: Why is Methadone dispensed only at clinics?

If Methadone is a government approved drug used to wean addicts from Heroin and Opiates then why is the addict not given a take home prescription?Why does he or she have to go to a clinic every day to be given their dose of Methadone like a child incapable of giving themselves medicine?
