Resolved Question: Has Anyone Switched From Methadone to Morphine?

Resolved Question: Has anyone switched from Methadone to Morphine?

I have been taking Methadone for chronic pain since December 18th. I can’t stand it anymore! Sure, it’s a very effective pain medicine, but the side effects are horrendous. Every morning I wake up feeling like I have the worst hangover in the world until I take my meds and wait 2 or 3 hours. I feel slightly nauseous all day long so I don’t eat, I am sleepy all the time and I feel like I am very, very stupid. Someone told me to wait, that all this would go away. I don’t want to wait anymore.

I am having surgery in about 3 weeks and (hopefully) getting weaned off the Methadone, but I’m not sure I can wait.

I was wondering if there is anyone out there who has switched from Methadone to morphine? I know it usually goes the other way, but I really would prefer to be on morphine. I am tired of feeling like I have a non-stop hangover. I will be consulting with my doctor who specializes in pain, but I want to know first hand from someone who has made the switch, PLEASE!

Resolved Question: Need info on the drug “Subutex”?

Hey, so I took some subutex last night not knowing what it was at the time, thought it was E and got pretty messy. Ended up puking through-out the night and gouching out (really drowzy, in your own world) and began scratching. Morning after I have been puking up again especially if I drink anything, i’ve stopped being sick now however I still keep scratching. Everything on my body is being itchy. Basically is this a common side effect or have I had an allergic reaction? I feel overall ill and my eyes are black. I am not a heroine addict or addicted to methadone. If it helps I did snort a fair few lines since I did not feel anything after the first line, was it an overdose? Please don’t tell me how stupid I am for doing it or taking drugs, i’m not asking for your personal opinion on my life decisions. If you have an appropriate answer to this question I would very much appreciate it. Thanks!

Voting Question: Methadone for Chronic Pain – Side Effects?

I have been taking methadone tablets for the past month for back pain until my surgery next month. I have developed quite a tolerance for this medication and am currently taking 30mg 3 times a day.

Naturally there are side effects (such as extreme fatigue) but there are two that I am worried about. I wanted to check here before I talk to my doctor, as this methadone is the first drug that actually works for my pain and I am reluctant to quit at this point.

What worries me? Sometimes in the evening I develop some difficulty in swallowing food, and a little bit of trouble breathing. Not too much trouble breathing, but it’s there at times. The food, I chew into tiny bites and drink water with it so it will go down.

Is this an indication that the dosage I am on is too much for me? Could this be dangerous?
I forgot to mention I am a heavy smoker. No lectures please, I am creating a plan to quit while I am in hospital.

I would LOVE to hear from someone with personal experience.

C”MON PEOPLE – Someone MUST know SOMETHING!!!!

WOW – this is amazing. I ask how to get my kitten to stop scratching and biting and I get 13 answers in less than a day. Methadone? Gee, must be too hard for people.
