Oldest Son Is Addicted to Heroin He Is in Treatment and Is Supposed to Come Home in a Week…?

Question by Dayan: Oldest son is Addicted to heroin he is in Treatment and is supposed to come home in a week…?
This has been a ongoing mess for a while now my son got addicted to heroin thanks to his girlfriend who is 17 her brother is an addict and well he got my son hooked and so now i am left picking up the pieces and the aftermath of it all! Well my son has been in Rehab for 4months now they had to transfer him out of the rehab and into the hospital specifically icu when he first when in to detox its the hardest thing i have ever had to watch =(. Well anyways i know he is going to want to see his girlfriend but and i don’t even know why i have let him keep her as a girlfriend i am thinking about making him cut off contact with her because i don’t want him relapsing and so i am just worried if i would be over stepping my bounds as it were! What should i do? I mean i don’t want to make it seem like he gets to come home and then i start punishing him and cutting him off from everything! What should i do? Advice?

At 17 it’s going to be impossible to keep track of who he sees when he’s outside the house. It’s unlikely he’ll stay clean after one rehab of just 4 months. It generally takes heroin addicts 7 or 8 times before they give it up if at all and that’s with a year in rehab. You have a rocky road ahead I’m afraid. Hopefully as he is young he couldn’t have been on it for very long and this one time in rehab may be enough.
