Question by : Has Anyone Ever Undergone “Rapid Detox”?
If so, can you please share your experience? My husband is considering this for his suboxone addiction. He tried to overcome the addiction himself and became sooo suicidal. His guts were gurgling and his anxiety was unbearable…He is terrified of the withdrawal and wants to make sure he doesn’t waste his time and money if he’s still going to suffer after the Rapid Detox treatment.

Anyone who has experienced it can tell you, heroin addiction is not easy. Heroin addiction can creep up and controlling it’s use is next to impossible. The scary part is that heroin seems to be making a huge come-back among many young adults and its spreading like a horrible virus. Many of us know someone (if not ourselves) who is or has been addicted to heroin or other forms of opiates and opioids. Often times the individual doesn’t even know that they are physically addicted until they decide to stop using heroin or other opioids only to result in being so physically ill that they become completely debilitated and go through severe, long-term relentless pain, uncomfort among a vast variety of horrible withdrawal symptoms that are almost too painful to describe.

Question by : I am having a problem understanding what kind of ramifications this policy could create as far as ethical.?
In this scenario I have to answer a question. “Based on the conclusions you reach after taking all this into account, share your opinion on whether the policy is considered an ethical one, based on its potential ramifications.

There are several options for treatment of opioid addiction during pregnancy. The ones of importance include: methadone in pregnancy, Suboxone (buprenorphine/naloxone) in pregnancy, and buprenorphine alone during pregnancy. This is an important topic for mothers who have an opioid addiction and face the choice of whether to continue their opioid maintenance treatment during their gestation or whether to discontinue the medication. As always, only individualized treatment with your own physician can adequately assess your situation and the following are general guidelines.

The current thinking for mothers with an opioid addiction is to continue their maintenance medications. Suboxone carries a Pregnancy Category C indication by the FDA which means that a risk to the fetus can’t be ruled out. Since Suboxone is a combination of buprenorphine and naloxone, mothers are many times switched to buprenorphine alone (Brand name Subutex) to decrease exposure to one medication rather than two.
