Methadone Side Effects: Resolved Question: How Do I Gradually Reduce My Extreme Sugar Consumption?
Resolved Question: How do I gradually reduce my extreme sugar consumption?
I am female and I am 24 years old. Ever since I started on a Methadone Maintenance Program about 4 years ago, I began craving sugar constantly. I gained about 90lbs in two years because of it and I desperately need help! As silly as it may sound, I believe I have a sugar addiction and it’s controlling my life. I know I have a problem and I need help to stop it. It seems I have to have a sugar fix every hour or two or I am miserable, irritable, I have mood swings, I feel lethargic and weak. I also get hypoglycemia (I not sure I have diabetes) if I don’t consume something with sugar in it for more than 3-4 hours. I went out and bought some Glucose tablets for the hypoglycemia and carry them with me everywhere just in case I have an attack. I haven’t been tested for diabetes or thyroid problems in more than 2 years, but I’m guessing I might have pre-diabetes at the very least. My biggest downfall for sugar foods are ice cream, cereal and cappuccinos. I cannot seem to live without them. I like foods that are ready to eat right away, which is why I like cereal, because all you need is a bowl, spoon, and milk. I really like fruit, but I can’t see myself eating that all the time. It seems I have to really crave for a different food, other than sugar, to eat it. I don’t eat a lot of fried foods and I rarely get fast food or eat out. My main issue is just with the sugar. I don’t drink a lot of regular sodas either. I mainly stick to Diet Pepsi, water and the occasional juice. I’m at the point that I will actually eat a container of icing, just so I can get a sugar fix. I also used to eat whipped cream right from the can. I quit that though because of the guilt. I usually don’t eat most of the day until the evening. I’ve been told that might be the reason I can’t lose any weight. I can’t stick with a diet for more than a day. I know, it’s sad, but I don’t have any willpower. I’ve almost given up on trying to eat better and get healthy again. I used to have a healthy appetite and I barely ate any of the things I do now. Grocery shopping is a big temptation and I’ve considered asking my mother to do my shopping for me so I don’t give in. Sometimes, I choose to buy sugary foods rather than other important things I might need such as clothing or medication or paying a bill on time. I go broke every month from my grocery bill. I spend about $ 150 a week on food for just myself. I’ve actually had “temper tantrums” in the past if I don’t have anything with sugar to eat in the house and I demand that someone drive me to the grocery store to buy something to settle my sugar craving. I usually don’t get out of bed until the afternoon. I would like to get up around 9am, but my lack of energy really de-motivates me. I know I need to exercise, but being on the Methadone, it causes Hyperhidrosis. It’s very uncomfortable for me to exercise, especially in the summer heat. I’m gradually reducing my Methadone dose. I think that might have an effect on my cravings eventually. I’m on other medications that make me feel tired, weak and lethargic. I take Amitriptyline, Baclofen, and Clonidine which drains my energy as well. I’d like to know what foods I can substitute for sugar that is as close to the real thing as possible. I need to know how to stop the temptation and slowly wean myself away from sugar. I know this is a long explanation, but I’d like someone to personalize their answer just for me. I really don’t want a generalized one. I really want to get on with my life and go back to school and not worry about what I’m eating. If you have any information that might help me, please let me know! It would be greatly appreciated! At this point, it can’t get any worse for me.

Resolved Question: My boyfriend can’t seem to be able to have sex with me?
He is struggling with an addiction to heroin. And is desperately trying to get off of it. He has slowed down a lot. But since he got into it real bad, he can’t seem to be able to keep an erection. Or sometimes even get one at all. He tries and it is very frustrating for me, as I crave sex every day. I know it has nothing to do with physical attraction because he can’t keep his hands off of me most of the time. I’m a very attractive woman and never had any issues like this. Is it common for someone on certain drugs to lose the ability to have sex? Or could this be an early stage of ED? He is only 28. I am extremely frustrated because sex is very important to me in a relationship. And since all of this, I’m feeling depressed. Lack of sex causes me to become extremely moody which in turn, is causing fights and making the relationship rocky. Please help. I’m not sure why I crave sex daily. He says it is almost like my own little addiction. And he has tried to get into a methadone clinic, but you wouldn’t believe how hard it is to get into one. Because he has only been doing it a year, and hasn’t been to rehab and detox and all those other things, they won’t take him. He’s been trying for detox and nobody has a bed open ever. So, he is trying like hell, but with no luck.
