Open Question: my only & best friend of 22 years died Aug30,2011, the memories died with him,i feel i cant deal?

joshua ryan green died aug 30 2011 about a year ago he overdosed on methadone and alcohol, he got the methadone from me,so my guilt is paralyzing.
I left the methadone clinic last month. I had violent withdrawl, and my bipolar tendencies are running wild.
How long should it take till the slightest thought of him makes me break down and cry.
I really dont see myself getting over this, any comments are welcom
