Open Question: help i need advice before seeing my doctor. I’ve switched doctors and don’t know what to do!?

So about a year and a half ago i broke my back. A burst fracture to my L2 caused me to be hospitalized for about 7 days. I was in extreme pain, and was lucky i was able to walk afterwards. I have 2 rods and a bunch of pins and screws in my back right now. anyways, recently about 4-5 months ago i was prescribed methadone 10mg by my primary doctor. he said it would help with the long term daily pain and aching. about a month ago he told me that he wanted me to see a Pain management specialist. So i followed up with his instructions and have gone to see my pain mangement doctor. Since my primary doctor will no longer give me methadone he suggested that i ask my pain manage doctor. I went in the office of the pain manage clinic the other day and they seemed like the type of place that doesn’t want their patients on any narcotics. I did a days worth of physical therapy which is very important and i am not questioning this at all. However, I’ve been on the methadone for 5 months now, with a daily dose of about 3-4 daily. I have now tapered myself down becuase i have been running out! i’m now on 5-10 mg a day! NOW, since my pain manage ment clinic seems uptight about writing prescriptions, I’m concerned about withdrawal. I’ve been through it before and can’t do it right now. I have to work full time and meet daily deadlines and can’t lack in performance. I’m nervous that the pain doctor will not allow me to continue using the methadone which has helped me significantly. PLEASE I NEED YOUR ADVICE!

Voting Question: info about methadone? or personal experiences dealing with an addict?

I have a close family member who unfortunately had become addicted to heroin for the last 7 years. She now has been clean for about 6 months, and is currently going to a methadone clinic daily. She is REALLY using this methadone as a crutch its almost as bad as being addicted to the heroin itself psychologically. I really would like her to get off of it asap. I know its not a black and white kind of situation, but not only is it expensive to continue its also not mentally healthy.

I have been researching about it, but I would like to know personal experiences and advice. How is the with drawl from the methadone? How long does it last etc. Also I know its different with everyone but what is the average time a patient takes it? Really any info at all would be extremely helpful.

She is just stuck in this addict mentality and doesnt seem to want anything better, and I realize that I am partially to blame for enabling her and helping her finacially I just dont know what to do, she refuses rehab and is stuck with her loser boyfriend. I know tough love is needed but it eats me up inside, but she literally has lived on the streets and been in trouble with the law for robbing people I just want to know what is the best thing I can do for her at this point?
