Open Question: False Positive Drug Screen. Please, need advise?
Ok, I have asked this question twice with no responses. My family Doctor of 25 years that saw me through my motorcycle wreck in 2003 (10 years ago) was prescribing my meds. I broke my pelvis, 1/3 of my scapula was broken off and the missing part does not show up on xrays, it’s all jagged. I still can’t sit in a recliner very long or sleep on my back or broken r side. I have a non union collarbone and they stopped counting broken ribs at 14. They are misaligned and several non union. I also had 2 fractured vertabrea, collapsed lung and a head injury. I was in ICU for 5 days. I also have a terminal lung disease, pulmonary fibrosis. I have been seeing a Neurologist for almost 20 years but didn’t get pills from him until Family Doc left. Now he is giving me my prescriptions. The Doctor that moved away was giving me Lortab 7.5, 4 times a day. I only take 2 a day. Valium 10 mg 3 times a day but I only take 15 mg a day. And Soma 4 times a day, I only take 1-1/2 or sometimes 2 Soma a day. I found that Soma takes pain away that Lortab won’t touch. I only ever asked for Tylenol 3. He said codiene was a bad drug and wanted me on Lortab. I never took the full amount prescribed of anything hoping to keep from being addicted and still manage my pain. If I am addicted it shouldn’t be too bad. I only take the Soma at night and Lortab during the day. Family Doc also ran a Suboxone Clinic. I think he was trying to give me enough rope to hang myself with, but I always took less than prescribed. I have been on it so long, I might be addicted, I don’t know. I wake up hurting and start every day with a Lortab. They still take the edge off. I was offered Oxycontin by the Pain Clinic and walked out on that Doctor holding the prescription for it. He looked shocked. I would NEVER take it. The Neurologist sent two drug tests to a Lab. One came back positive for oxycontin, the other one came back with methadone, or so he said. I think he may be lying. I called on a day he wasn’t there and told the girl I was upset over the false positives. I have never taken oxycontin and certainly not Methadone, that is ridiculous. The girl told me if I come right over I could take the instant drug test, which I passed with flying colors. Could he be trying to get rid of me? He has had problems. Somebody shut him down for a day. The last time I saw him I’m sure he was getting ready to dismiss me. He said well, you tested positive once, then we gave you an opportunity,, and he stopped and said oh, you passed the instant test, which he didn’t know I took, he said it must be something with that combination and said he believes me and gave me my prescriptions with 3 refills. He cut the dosage down is all which is no big deal but I want to take one last big road trip in April. I could be gone a month. I am retired, in my 60s, have Grandchildren and have always tried to set a good example for my kids and grandkids and be an upright man to the best of my ability. I wish I could turn the clock back and never had that accident or got Pulmonary Fibrosis from my work, casting and grinding on metals, plaster, sandblasting, breathing fumes from Hydroflouric and Muratic acids, cyanide and asbestos from 1968 to 1983 when they stopped using it. The lung disease is causing me to start getting barrel chested, which I’m sure is causing my ribs to hurt more. When he told me I tested positive for methadone I used the king of bad words about that Lab and told him I didn’t want my tests to go there again. He said he had to use them. I don’t believe that. If it is the Lab and not him trying to get rid of me that Lab has violated any contract. 2 of his girls told me they were getting a lot of false positives. Sorry to be so long. In 2011 I had a heart attack and a stent in my right coronary artery. Then had another heart cath about 9 months later. I have been off Plavix for 4 months. I take Simvastatin and 2 baby aspirins a day. Could any of these meds cause false positives? This stress is causing me to have an irregular heartbeat when I dwell on it, according to my BP cuff and I can feel it. I was given Metoprolol but it drops my HR down to 50 and gives me chest pains. I feel sorry for people that have had false positives and lost jobs, lost their Kids, or other ways these tests have ruined peoples lives unfairly. If a person was on probation or parole, they would get locked up for a bad test. A Court would convict me. This experience has been a real eye opener for me. Too much Big Brother and incompetent Drug testing facilities is a bad combination. They don’t have to use certified drug testing facilities. I have been thinking about going to a different Dr., a pain specialist. I talked to them and they will see me. Should I just be honest with a new Doctor and tell him about the false positives? That is my instinct. My brother said don’t tell them because it’s false. Thank you so much Joe for responding. Yes, I go to the Chiropractor 8 to 10 times a year. Medicare(SS) won’t cover to go all the time, they call it maintenance. With Medicare and my supplemental Blue Cross it doesn’t cost me a dime. You are right, he helps a lot. There has been times I hobbled in there like a 95 year old man in terrible pain and strutted out pain free. Every time I go he makes me feel better, never fails. If only it would last. Still my honor as a man has been questioned and I don’t like it.
