Look People, I Really Really Need Some Help Here.. Please?
Question by Living_dead_Girl_45: Look people, I really really need some help here.. Please?
I’m 11 weeks pregnant and my doctor has me on tramadol for endometriosis. I’m trying to stop the tramadol for the sake of my baby, but the withdrawals are hell. Severe RLS, anxiety, panic attacks, horrible insomnia, cold sweats constantly, and though I live in hot and humid Hawaii, I am freezing as though it is winter time in Colorado. If I don’t get help with these withdrawals, I will lose the baby. Now, I’ve begged numerous doctors, even before I got pregnant, to help me off the tramadol with any medication that can make it a bit more bearable especially since I have a 9 month old to take care of. The problem is, they don’t believe me about the withdrawals saying “tramadol (or ultram) is non-narcotic, so it doesn’t cause withdrawals”. I’m honest to god telling you, that is bullshit. That is a lie. While it is not a ‘true opiate’, it IS a synthetic opiate and does the exact same thing as oxycodone. I have an appointment on Wednesday with a new doctor to try and get help with this. (I’m studying pharmacology to be a pharmacist) I know of several class B medications ( safe for the baby) that could effectively help me off the tramadol with minimal withdrawals and would guarantee I don’t lose the baby. The problem is getting him to believe me that I do in fact go through withdrawals if I do not take this medication. What can I do to convince him to help me for the sake of my baby? Please help me..

Don’t call them withdrawals with the Dr and he/she is more likely to listen to you. try calling it “your body adjusting to the lack of tramadol in your system.” some doctors have their medical licence printed on Chinese menus I’m sure. If they know you have medical training they sometimes treat you less like an idiot (or at least I found one that does). Good luck in your studies, pregnancy and doctor hunting :)
