Can I Get the Mirena Coil at or After My 6 Week Check?
Question by jules: can i get the mirena coil at or after my 6 week check?
i had my beautiful baby boy 4 weeks ago and want the mirena coil for contraception.i phoned my local planned parenthood and they said that i had to have 3 ‘normal’ periods before they would fit one,is this always the case?i asked if i could have the pill or anything and they said that condoms are my only option.is this always the case?also how soon after getting the coil in is it effective?i done some research on the internet and all of the sites state nothing about having a period first and they all say it is safe for women who are breastfeeding, they don’t get periods,do they?can anybody please shed some light on this please!

My doctor told me to use alternative methods for 2 weeks after insertion to be safe.
Do EXTENSIVE research before getting it. Not everyone loses their periods – not even a majority. Mine were 100x worse.
I suggest just a simple google search of “mirena side effects” and going through the numerous forums of women who have had it and what they think. Not just the Mirena small print, “You may experience…” but actual women’s experiences. You will probably be surprised.
