Drug Abuse Effects on My Body?
Question by Sam: Drug abuse effects on my body?
Id just like to start saying i know i have a problem and i know what im doing is bad for me. Im not able to talk to a actual medical docter right now so i am looking for advice. im 16 And have been abusing pills for about 2 years now. i got out of “rehab” 4 months ago but took up my old ways pretty quickly. one thing ive done about three times now is a benedryl trip. ( i know its ridiculous but your hearing this from someone with a drug problem) ive taken about 25 to 30 each time. ive kinda had this realization of how stupid it was for me too do this because i could have easily died. Now im just worried if ive seriously injured my liver. when i was last in rehab they took bloodwork and said i was fine but im worried about the damage ive done since, more to my brain, heart and liver. do you think its important i go to a docter and get a thorough check done. I know it sunds pointless because i continue to do drugs, and i sound like a hipocrite im just kinda lost and not sure what i should do when it comes to what i have dne to my body, besides stopping, which trust me i am trying to do, its a battle and i have slip ups now and then.
please no hate, thats really not why i posted this.

Your liver has the ability to heal itself over time. However, if you constantly abuse it and do not give it a chance to properly heal, you could seriously injure yourself. Im not sure what other pills you are addicted to, but benedryl and robo trips are not addictive, and you could easily kill yourself by abusing them. You are lucky to be alive. Just knock it off and chill out. Your liver is only able to handle so much. The crazy shit you were experiencing when you were tripping is your livers inability to process all the garbage you put into it. The world is crazy enough to experience without psychoactive substances.

Sam, let me start by saying I have been in recovery for over 25yrs and Have been a substance abuse Counselor for 20+yrs. So willing to talk to you individually if you want to look up my info on my ANSWER profile page and contact me. Up to you.
I will tell you this, all those drugs are extremely hard on your liver, but luck for use drug/alcohol abusers, the liver does heal itself to some degree, IF we stop and start taking care of the liver and ourselves.
I would strongly suggest you consider going right back into treatment. The individual that relapses and immediately goes right back into treatment has a 75% better chance of getting and staying clean. I’m sure you heard it while in treatment, but it’s true, relapse is part of the disease. Does NOT mean you have to continue to relapse, but when you DO relapse you have to immediately start again. Yes you lost that recovery time, but you DID NOT lose what you learned, AND You learn the most from your mistakes. IF you take time to look at the relapse and really look what caused it.
You said you felt like a hypocrite but you are not any different than any other person attempting to get clean. We have all been there feeling like you are feeling. But it’s up to you if you are giving recovery another chance. Of course it’s a battle and I have fought it at times myself till I thought it would be easier to give up and die. BUT looking back with my time clean now, I am so happy I kept trying.
There is no doubt about it recovery is a process and does not happen all at once. I would suggest at least getting into an outpatient program in your area. Of course going to meetings, getting a sponsor and keeping a journal. Also going to your doctor or better yet your treatment DR. and getting some blood work done would be beneficial to keeping your peace of mind on the right track.
There are two good sites to check out, TEEN HELP and WEB M.D. there you check out various things about recovery, and damage that drugs do to your body.
Let me assure you, at 16yrs of age, you have not done near the damage to your body, as if you continue to use drugs till you are 30yrs old. You have plenty of time to get on a good diet, start good vitamins and exercising and get your body in great shape. I got clean at 32 and now years later I’m in better than average shape for my age.
Again if you would like some help with your recovery would be glad to help in any way you see helpful AHO Reggie
