Is Soy Milk Good for You? I Was Gonna Take My Kid Off Dairy?

Question by Photogirl: Is soy milk good for you? I was gonna take my kid off dairy?
I did some research on it and found out its not because soy beans naturally produce phytoestregens, which is a hormone that mimics estrogen. This was a quote form the article ” it should be considered child abuse to fed a baby soy formula it is the equivalent to giving the child approximately 5 birth control pills a day”
why do you say its stupid? It has been studied and proven.. look it up!

that article is stupid. not only is soy good for the kids but some cannot even handle anything but soy. My friends little boy can have only soy milk.

edit: i say it is stupid because if it was true then doctors wouldn’t advise parents to give it to their children if they are having problems with regular formula.

Seriously? Where did you get this info? Because my daughter showed to be lactose intolerant and I had to give her soy milk, can you please post site where you found it so I can read up on it??

  • J:

Kids need dairy (especially enriched with vitamin D) until they’re done growing.

If your concerned about hormones in dairy, buy organic—it’s about the same price as soy without the possible estrogen effects.

  • slurpee74:

Why are you taking your kid off dairy? Are they allergic, or is because YOU don’t like it and are being selfish? Kids need milk.

  • ????????:

Soy milk can be good for you, but watch the sugar content in the flavored ones. The reason whole milk is often given to babies has more to do with the healthy fat content that helps to build up the brain than the vitamins, many of which have been lost in the pasteurization process. Be sure to feed her healthy fats like avocados to replace the dairy fat. It’s perfectly fine to give your baby soy milk so long as you are giving them plenty of other healthy calories and have gotten approval from your pediatrician. Some children shouldn’t drink it because it can be harder for them to digest or complicate food allergies, so talk to your doctor first. My young brothers drink it all the time because they prefer it. Word of advice: never take anything with “detoxification” in the link too seriously. It’s a fad-word and it really discredits the source. You won’t find Harvard Medical School or the Mayo Clinic using it. Read about soy milk from more reliable sources. I read an article in a medical journal of my mom’s ages ago about how soy milk doesn’t interfere with the endocrine system whatsoever.

    Edit
Judge Judy is right about the hormones found in dairy products. My best friend’s dad is a very respected dermatologist, and he advises patients, and especially ones who are young women, to avoid dairy or at the very least only buy organic because the hormones injected to the cows at most regular dairy farms can cause imbalances which can, amongst other things, contribute to acne. With small children it can affect their natural hormone growth.

Thanks for the mayo clinic link. : )
