What Kinds of Careers Do Developmental Psychologists Get?
Question by alicia: What kinds of careers do developmental psychologists get?
Hello! I want to apply for a PhD program in psychology. The campus I am considering “does not offer a clinical psychology program.” They have developmental and a few others. Can a developmental psychologist have his or her own private practice upon certification? What kinds of jobs are available to someone with this field of study?
Thank you sooo much.

If you want to do therapy, then you want to apply to a clinical psychology program, and probably one specifically where you get a Psy. D. rather than a Ph.D. Most other programs are very research, rather than treatment focuses, and train you more for academic positions. Other than academics, a Ph.D. in developmental psychology might be good training for a policy job related to children, or in the education field (though you’d need other training to actually be a teacher).
