Does This Sound Normal? ParaGuard…?

Question by Ricky’s Mommy is TTC!: Does this sound normal? ParaGuard…?
I posted this last night, but only got one answer, “I dunno”. If anyone can help me figure this out, it would be greatly appreciated!

I had my Para Guard IUD inserted at 8 weeks postpartum, On April 29th 2010… I spotted for 2 days after having it inserted, then got my first period (after the IUD) on May 15. It was a normal period, just heavy and with a lot of cramping (which I expected) I had another period, on time, that started on June 14 (same thing as the “first” one). I was expecting my period around mid July… and it ended up coming on August 2nd instead… 2 weeks late. I didn’t worry too much, but my period was lighter than I was expecting (The first two after I got the IUD were HEAVY), so I took a pregnancy test, which was negative.

Since my period came on August 2, I was expecting a period near the beginning of September, and I know it still is the Beginning, but I still haven’t gotten my period, and I have no signs of starting it like I usually do. (No Cramping or PMS…) For the last 2 weeks or so, I have been extremely tired, and sick to my stomach nearly EVERY night and early in the morning. I don’t want to take another pregnancy test yet, because my husband thinks that I am crazy for thinking it is possible to get pregnant with an IUD… And because I’m not even sure it is possible (it took us over 3 years to conceive our son). I may just be freaking out, because my son is only 6 months old, and I don’t know how I feel about another child so soon, I wanted more time with my son before we thought about having more children. If I am pregnant, I will be happy for the addition to our little family… I just wanted more time…

Of course, I will wait another 2 weeks or so, and if I don’t get my period, I WILL go to my OBGYN, to see if something is wrong or if I am pregnant, but my question is: Does this sound normal? I had two “regular” periods after the IUD was inserted, exactly when I was expecting them… then 2 weeks late one time, and no symptoms for the one I was supposed to get this month. Is it possible that I could be pregnant, even with the IUD?

I did some research on ParaGuard, and the only “side effects” that I know about are Heavier periods and Severe Cramping (both of which I had, except for this month). Is there side effects that I don’t know about? What could be causing this irregularity with my period?
I checked this morning for the strings, and they are still where they are supposed to be… but I still have no signs of my period coming. I am so confused!

Yes, I am 30.5 weeks pregnant and I have a paraguard copper IUD. I took a home pregnancy test and then had an ultrasound that same day that said I was 6 weeks along. I had no clue especially since I was breastfeeding and expected irregular periods. They could not find my iud however and assumed that I passed it and didnt know it. We just learned a while ago that my IUD perferated the wall of my uterus and is over by my left hip with the blood vessels to my legs. I am lucky I didnt get an infection.

My suggestion is to check for the string to your IUD and if you cannot find it then call your ob and set up an ultrasound just to be safe. I had no idea that my IUD went through the wall.
