I’ve been on the Depo shot for about 4 and a half years now. I was 15 when I started using it.
For the first two years, everything seemed fine.. Just a bad headache here or there. Then winter came and I feel like a fell into a bit of a depression. Over the last 2 and a half years, I’ve noticed my vision getting weaker, headaches persisted more (probably due to vision) and my winter depression has shifted just from winter, to every single day.
It’s disgusting. Every day I wake up and just wait for the sadness to come. I know it isn’t normal to think about wanting to die every. single. day. Or at least I hope not. Usually my sad spells only last an hour or so.. Crying, hating myself, hating the world. Also, in the last month, I find myself getting suuuper pissed and digging my nails into myself or punching myself. Like wtf?????? I was never like this before?
The only thing that’s a sure bet to put me back in my sanity is to smoke a bowl. I had also wondered if all of this could be set off by a “marijuana withdrawal” (HAHA!) But, it makes me extremely happy, takes away my headaches and allows me to actually sleep at night.
I read about Depo Provera causing depression. I don’t know much about depression so I’m wondering if anyone else had this happen to them?
I’ll definitely be going off of this shot. I know it takes a while to get it out of your system, but is there anything that will help?

GET OFF IT! It was the 1st thing I was ever on & like you the 1st yr was fine! Then I went off it for awhile & when I started again…lets just say Im lucky nobody got hurt I was a complete nut job!!! You probably need somethin with very low hormones! Im on the pill now with a very low hormone I still get sad but its more around “my time” so its ok I can deal! Also try an IUD if you dont like the pill only thing is when the doc says only 1 sexual partner you better listen! I had a friend (true story-not me!!) who had mulitple partners she got so infected it almost killed her! I dont know of anything to flush it outta your system but just the fact you’ll be off it you’ll feel a differance id say within a couple weeks no promises but I know i felt better soon after!
