Drugs are a multi-billion dollar industry, just in Afghanistan alone, they make enough heroin to make billions of dollars a year, but most of the money made is made in western countries, along the chain of sale.
Methadone is twice as addictive as heroin, and that’s completely legal, in fact where I am, it’s about the only drug they will prescribe you if you have a history of drug problems, except codeine, which I’m on at the moment.
Alcohol kills more people than anything else in the world, then cigarettes, and illegal drugs are like one thousand times less on that list.
Many of the people in jail are there due to drugs, and many of the crimes committed in society could be avoided by simply making drugs legal, or certain drugs legal anyway, with the aim of harm reduction.
The problem has only been getting steadily worse over the years, with particularly crystal meth and ice becoming more popular, due to their low cost and ease to manufacture.
Hitler was on methamphetamine, in fact all the soldiers in world war two were on methamphetamine, ever the allied soldiers at certain times, but too much of it over too long a period makes you look like the walking dead.
Ecstasy is becoming a fairly popular drug these days, and it has barely any side effects, particularly when taken at low doses.
Should attempts be made to cause harm reduction by steering people in the right direction of drug use, (such as with the methadone program over heroin), rather than letting the current system continue to destroy society?

I have been taking methadone since mid-December 2010 for chronic pain, and am currently up to 20 mg. 3 times daily.
It almost completely obliterates the pain, but the side effects of sleepiness and “feeling stupid” will not go away. Can I expect these side effects to ever go away, or do I need to put up with them until I have surgery (which is scheduled for February 2011)?
But then, I may end up taking methadone again if the surgery does not work.
I have tried to read medical websites/articles, but this “stupidness” prevents me from taking it in and understanding what I am reading. I notice there are some knowledgeable people here (regarding methadone) and am asking for help.

My b-i-l takes all 4 of these and my sister informed me he defecated himself. I have searched everywhere and can’t find any side effects like this. Is he just being lazy? I personally don’t like him, but I’m asking for my baby sister.
