Open Question: Anyone in New York City on a methadone clinic?

I’m 62 and have been on methadone since 2001. I don’t like it but must take it or be in such severe pain that I could not bare it. So, I get my medication from a pain clinic in Houston, which is approx 25 miles from me. I also have hep. C and cirrhosis of the liver and have been told methadone is the least damaging to the liver when it comes to pain meds. Luckily, I only go once every 2 months and insurance covers 100%. I get a white 10mg tab, enough to take 6 per day. To me it is not as strong as the old orange tabs made by Rooch. What is available there as I may be there sometime by July, 2012. Thanks Robert

Resolved Question: How to cope with oxycodone withdrawals?

I have been prescribed percocet for two years and my doctor just cut me off cold turkey, I feel like I’m dieing, I’ve been getting them elsewhere but now I’m broke… What can I do to get me by until I can get into the methadone clinic? Also, I have an old script of tramadol with two refills, should I take these to help the pain and suffering, although they give me a slight headache and slight heart burn…

Resolved Question: Is methadone harder to kick the heroin?

I was on H foot years, and all the stealing and lieing that goes with drug use. But them I went on methadone and now I am clean. Now off the heroin I am no longer stealing car breaking into homes, etc… But I am still on a large amount of methadone. I have heard it is harder to kick th heroin than the methadone because the methadone gets into your fat cells and bone marrow. If this is true, the logical thing to do would be to ween off he methadone and bck onto the heroin. I know this sounds stupid on paper but if you have ever kicked methadone you know it is so hard it can take away EVERYTHJNG that makes you you. But so can the heroin. I feel like the docs at the clinic just want me to stay on methadone forever so they can keep getting paid. I also use the methadone for pain management, so without the methadone unwound have to get into some other pain relief. My general doc is a resident phisition and only out of med school for less than a year and since I am on state insurance I don’t have much choice In my doc. Any advice?
